Future of Transportation Discussed at Istanbul Transportation Master Plan Workshop

Istanbul Transportation Master Plan Workshop was held on 21.01.2021 with the participation of IMM decision makers and technical staff. In the workshop, the topics of "Expectations Regarding the Transportation Master Plan" and "Determining Forward Steps" were discussed for Istanbul.

Mr. Can Akın Çağlar, IMM Secretary General, highlighted the importance of creating an accessible Istanbul. He stated that IMM gives great importance to the development of rail systems and sea transportation. IMM Deputy Secretary General for Transportation and Environment Mr. İbrahim Orhan Demir stated that the plan is a long-term study and the most important issue determining the elements of transportation is land use development. Demir continued his words by emphasizing the importance of the effects of pandemic and climate change on the planning process. IMM Transportation Platform Advisory Board Member, Arup local team leader, Prof. Dr. Haluk Gerçek also pointed out the importance of sustainable urban mobility plans.

Ms. Melda Horoz, Deputy Director of IMM Transportation Planning, informed about the transportation planning studies carried out in Istanbul and the city’s sustainable urban mobility plan preparations (Istanbul SUMP Project) which is currently conducted under the Global Future Cities Programme.
