With the additional support from the FCDO, the Future Cities South Africa (FCSA) programme pivoted towards supporting the city administrations of Johannesburg, eThekwini and Cape Town with their urgent COVID-19 challenges. This resulted in the scoping and delivery of 10 projects and 20 deliverables in response to COVID including logistical support for city public health systems, Whatsapp/data portals to ensure informal settlement residents are receiving basic services, and tools to assess the environmental, economic and financial impact of COVID recovery plans.
This learning brief showcases the lessons learned in the process of delivering these projects and will be of particular interest to South African city administrations and the agencies, government departments and programmes that support them
